Were you planning to remodel your kitchen then discovered how much it was likely to cost? Maybe it’s not out of the question. Read on to see how you can remodel your kitchen without breaking the bank.
But first, bear in mind that you can’t avoid the cost of permits. Visit the city or website to see if your project will need one.
A kitchen remodel can cost much less than you think with the right approach. If your cabinets are in good shape and you are happy with the configuration, you may not even need to replace them. Just have them Professionally re-painted but please don’t do it yourself. It is not as easy as it looks. Or have them re-faced with the drawer boxes replaced. Then change out the countertops for granite (cheaper than you think if you know where to go).
Lighting shouldn’t be neglected either and maybe you want to have a new tile or hardwood floor but these can be done as separate projects if needed Here too, it can cost half what you expect if you shop around.
If you decide your cabinets do need replacing, you really should shop around. I like Granite Expo in Emeryville. They even have teams of installers who have done great work for some of my clients. IKEA is another possibility with their much improved range of kitchen cabinets of all kinds.
Do you need some new appliances? Regardless of personal preference, stainless steel will add the most value when you come to sell and most people have a strong preference for gas ranges. You don’t need the latest models though. Buy during the sales at Home Depot Check out Sears Outlet and Airport Appliance and don’t forget the Internet. There are sometimes amazing deals to be had there even when shipping is taken into consideration.
I have a database of resources for all of the above and more. If you need a referral just send me an email and I will be happy to help.
