Piatti Ristorante

Restaurant Review – Piatti, Danville

Although I had lunched at Piatti on numerous occasions in recent years, it had been a while since Sylvia and I had dinner there and we visited recently on an early evening mid-week.

Piatti really is a Danville landmark. I can remember when the premises were occupied by another restaurant (Country Kitchen?) but only just. Certainly it has been Piatti for many years.

Their success is down to a number of factors. Consistently good food at reasonable prices, a great ambiance at all times of year, an outside dining patio and a room with a fireplace and a very popular bar scene. Piatti does it all very well.

We felt fortunate to be seated in a cozy booth in the main restaurant and enjoyed the buzz of conversation going on all around. This is a very popular restaurant with a really good vibe.

On this occasion, neither of us had an appetizer, choosing to enjoy a couple of glasses of Acacia Chardonnay (which we brought with us) while waiting for our entrees to arrive.

The menu is not extensive (which is often a good sign) and there are always specials added and prices range start well below $20. Still, there is a good choice and most people should be able to find a dish or two that would suit them.

On this occasion, Sylvia had a Peperoncini pizza, one of Piatti’s favorites. This had an excellent crispy crust and just the right amount of topping. It could certainly have served two people and we took almost half of it home with us. I can confirm Sylvia’s comments that Piatti is worth a visit just for the pizza. It tasted just as good the next day!

For my entrée, I had a burger with parmesan fries and while this may sound like a boring choice, I must point out that this is a burger made with grass-fed beef. You really can taste the difference. Personally, I think a really good burger takes some beating and this was delicious. Again, a generous sized entrée although I did not take any part of it home with me.

For dessert, we shared an Apple Crisp – baked or stewed apples with a brown sugar crumble topping and served with a vanilla gelato. Very tasty. Not a single bite was left on the plate and again, it was a good portion size.

Overall, we had a really pleasant dinner in enjoyable surroundings and agreed that it had been far too long since we had visited. We will be back! Check them out at Piatti.com/Danville.
